Peptitler (Grekçe: πεπτίδια; “değersiz sindirilebilirler”) tanımlanmış bir düzende, α-amino asitlerin birbirine bağlamlanmasıyla oluşan güdük polimerlerdir.[1] Bir amino hamız kalıntısı ile başkası arasındaki bağ bir “amit bağ” yahut peptit bağı olarak bilinir.[1]
Tetrapeptit (Oligopeptit)
Proteinler polipeptit molekülleridir (yahut çok skorda polipeptit alt birimi çitndırır). Ana üstelik peptitlerin güdük, polipeptitlerin/proteinlerin ise uzun olmasıdır.[1]
Protein sentezi esnasında her amino hamız, özge amino asite sürekli, kırılmayan bir polimer olan polipeptid zincirleriyle bağlamlanır. Polipeptid kuruluşsına sertlan amino asitlerin her biri kuruluşya peptid bağlamlarıyla bağlamlanır. Peptid bağının oluşumu esnasında amino asitlerden birinin amino grubu ile diğerinin karboksil grubu, aradan bir kez çıkması sonucu birleşirler.[1]
Vasati bir polipeptit zinciri 450 amino asitten oluşur.[1] Aşina en uzun polipeptit, kestirmece 27,000 amino asitten oluşan, kas dokusunda kâin “titin”dir. Polipeptid zincirine sertlan amino asitlere kalıntı (residue) adı verilir.[1] Zincirin bir ucundaki kalıntı, bağ yapmamış, muaf amino grubu çitndırır ve N ucu olarak adlandırılır. Aynı şekilde zincirin özge ucundaki muaf α-karboksil grubu olan kalıntıevet C ucu adı verilir.
